Sometimes, the biggest breakthroughs come from the wins we almost overlook.
When I was awarded my first government contract an ITQ for training and consulting services I was thrilled. But I had no idea just how powerful that win would become.
At the time, I was focused on delivering value and getting the job done. I knew the ITQ was important, but I didn’t yet understand that it was more than just a single contract.
It was a doorway.
The Unexpected Ripple Effect
That one ITQ win changed everything.
Because of that contract:
I was able to successfully apply for and win another contract with the City of Philadelphia.
My business gained credibility in a competitive market.
New opportunities emerged from departments and divisions I hadn’t even targeted. Each of them interested in my training expertise, thanks to the foundation laid by the ITQ win.
What I thought was just one victory became a chain reaction of momentum.
The Power of a Single Win
What I’ve learned is that winning doesn’t just give you results, it gives you leverage.
It gives you proof. It gives you the confidence to go bigger.
It also makes people take you seriously.
People in this space want to work with businesses that have done the work, delivered results, and earned trust.
That first ITQ win was more than a checkbox; it was a resume builder, a reputation boost, and a referral source all in one.
Why You Should Celebrate Every Win
Too often, we wait for the six-figure award or multi-year deal to feel successful.
But the truth is:
Small wins create the path for bigger ones.
If you’re just getting started, don’t underestimate that first approval, that short-term contract, or that trial project.
It might feel small but it could be your launchpad.
Here’s What My Journey Taught Me:
1. Every contract counts - Big or small, each win is proof of capacity.
2. Momentum matters - One win makes it easier to win again.
3. People are always watching - Deliver excellence and others will come looking for you.
4. Positioning is power - Once you’re in the system, doors open faster.
5. Stay ready - You never know who’s going to ask for your services next.
That first contract was just the beginning.
Now, multiple city departments are requesting my training.
All because of one unexpected win that kept on winning.
If you’re chasing your first breakthrough keep going.
That first might lead to a future you haven’t even imagined yet.
