Let’s talk about the part of business no one brags about:
Having a powerful idea, real support, undeniable potential… and no funding.
That’s where I am right now.
I’ve got the vision. I’ve got the drive. I even have government contracts and momentum behind me.
But my biggest roadblock? Capital.
The Reality of Rejection
I’ve applied for funding only to be told:
“You didn’t make over $100,000 last year.”
“We can’t approve you at this time.”
Even the Famous Amos Grant, which I poured my heart into; didn’t come through. That one stung.
But guess what?
I’m still here. Still applying. Still showing up.
Because I believe that one “yes” can change everything.
And when it comes, I don’t just want it for me I want it so I can open doors for others, too.
Why You Can’t Let “No” Stop You
Rejection used to hurt. Now, it just motivates me to keep pushing.
I’ve heard “no” so many times that I’ve learned not to take it personally.
Sometimes, people can’t see your value yet. Sometimes, the timing’s just not right.
But my dream is valid.
My mission is real.
And yours is too.
Funding Big Dreams
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that when it comes to funding major projects, it’s not just about the dollars, it’s about believing you can carry it out.
Don’t let the numbers intimidate you.
If the opportunity seems “too big,” lean in. Learn. Prepare. Grow.
Confidence is a skill; build it by doing the hard things.
Because one day, the money will show up. And when it does, you need to be ready to lead, deliver, and shine.
For Anyone Struggling with Funding, Here Are Some Resources I’ve Used (or Am Using):
Philadelphia Business Lending Network (PBLN) – A great way to access local loans and grants
CDFIs (Community Development Financial Institutions) – Look into options like:
Women’s Opportunity Resource Center (WORC)
Impact Loan Fund
Greenline Access Capital
Enterprise Center Capital Corporation
Grants.gov – For national federal funding
Hello Alice – For small business grants and competitions
Local Chambers of Commerce & City Initiatives – Stay plugged in for pitch competitions and microgrants.
Final Word: Keep Building
Yes, it’s discouraging when the funding doesn’t come through.
Yes, it’s frustrating when they say “no.”
But keep showing up. Keep building.
That one “yes” is coming.
And when it does, it won’t just open the door for you.
It’ll be the key to helping others step into their purpose, too.
You’re not behind. You’re just in the building phase.
And trust me, that’s where the strongest foundations are made.
